Doll Houses

I've been in a "we can make it" mood for a long time and I'm adding a DIY dollhouse to that list. I'd like to do this for my daughters for Christmas however I don't think I'll be able to get it done in time and I have fear that the littlest one may eat the tiny pieces of furniture. Also, I'm undecided about which kind of house to build...the victorian? the quirky bookcase house? the modern minimalist? or how about a miniature version of my modular dream house?

I may have to save this project for next Christmas. Anyways, I want to share some adorable dollhouses that I found on Pinterest:

DJ K: Paper Lions - My Friends

Just loved this song "My Friend" by Paper Lions. This one goes out to all my awesome friends that I've been lucky to grow up with and those that I've met in my twenties.

Oh by the way...the band is from PEI, Canada...cool, eh?!

She's All That

Restyle 2014 l Day 9: Sheer

 chiffon dressing robe / thrifted
 ribbed tank dress / press
skinny metal belt / thrifted
 leopard shoes / f21

This vintage chiffon dressing robe is in a barely there lilac shade and has lace applique on the shoulders and cuffs. At first, I wore it open with a tank dress under but I thought it looked too much like a dressing robe (as it should because it is!). So then I decided to wrap it and belt it to wear as a dress which looks very 1940's. Pretty, eh?

xo,

K

Fantasy Friday: Off To Grandma's House We Go

It's Fantasy Friday! Being that it was Halloween yesterday, I wanted to create an image inspired by dressing up and scary fairy tales. This is of course Little Red Riding Hood (ok, more like Little Red Riding Cape). Little M and "grandma" are taking a nice shortcut thru the woods. I found this great spooky forest image to use as the background thanks to AndokaStock on deviantart.com.

Did You Know?

Did you know that at Superstore you could get your item free (up to $10) if it doesn't scan the right at the till?!

The other night, I happened to be waiting in line when a customer complained about an item being scanned wrong and that she should get it free. Unfortunately, it only took up 10+ mins to get it resolved. They were really annoyed by that time as was I but I learnt something new so the experience wasn't all wasted.

Next time, you're at the till, check the scan policy. It'll look similar to the photo above.  After googling this , it seems this is a general practice by other retailers. You can read more http://canadianbudgetbinder.com.

Rust and Bones

I don't know why but I love watching foreign films and have been into them since I was in high school. Maybe it's the part of me that wants to be French, Spanish or something else? There isn't that Hollywood cookie-cutter plot with a happily-ever after ending (not that I'm hating on those because yes...I do enjoy a JLo rom-com now and then). I just find foreign story lines are more raw, the performances are strong, and the sex...do i need to get into that?!

Two weeks ago, I watch Rust and Bones starring the beautiful Marion Cotillard and Matthias Schoenaerts. It's a story about a killer whale trainer (Cotillard) who meets a single father (Schoenaerts). He is a theif turned bouncer turned streetfighter. You witness their developing relationship after Cotillard experiences a horrific accident. The CGI in this film is impressive. Rust and Bones (French title: De Rouille et D'os) is now on my recommended list!

If you're interested in other foreign films or documentaries, check out my pinterest board  "watched list." for others that I've enjoyed. The list of films are those that I've seen mainly in the last year and are available on Netflix.

Fantasy Friday: Opera House Hot Pink

I'm "standing" in front of the famous Opéra National de Paris in a hot pink silk blouse and a ruched jersey mini and Michael Kors heels. This photo looks more real than last week's so I think I'm improving. I still can't seem to get a hang of "grounding" myself so that it looks more realistic. If anyone knows how, please let me know!

Hello Dolly!

Look at these doll clothes...aren't they just the sweetest little things! I was just thinking about how cute it would be to make some doll clothes out of scraps from vintage dresses that I refashion. Images are from 52flea and Wee Wonderfuls (also check out their vintage looking dolls they sell...I want one!).

Happy "Birth" Day

We just celebrated my husband's birthday and we ended up at a restaurant that wasn't his choice but his mother's. I told him that it's his birthday and he should choose the restaurant. He replied "When you are celebrating my birthday, it is as much her day as it is mine". Wow! That's pretty deep. Seriously, I never thought about it like that.

"Your birthday is your mother's birth day."

I'm going to say it again and I want you to say it with me...

"My birthday is my mother's birth day."

You do know what this means? I get four birthdays every year! From now on, I'm going to be treating myself to a little something special on my children's birthdays and demanding to be catered to like the queen that I am. I'm guessing my husband is going to regret speaking his mind on this later on.

Oh yeah, last thought to my own mother...Happy Belated =)!

An Unreasonable Man

For those interested in political/social documentaries, I highly recommend watching "An Unreasonable Man" which focuses on the consumer activist Ralph Nader. I have never heard of him before watching it. This man has incredible passion and dedication for fighting injustice. He may be hated by many but you can't deny that he has courage to stand up and not be bullied or persuaded to go against his beliefs. It was saddening to watch some people beat his character down because I felt that he has been very genuine in his actions to help Americans live a better life.

Paris Fashion Week

Bonjour! I'm just wrapping up at Paris Fashion Week and can't wait to share with you some of the coolest trends from the Spring 2014 RTW shows. As exciting as it is to attend the shows, one can not help but get giddy over of the psuedo-runways on the street. There's photographers everywhere snapping photos of you and calling your name..."Ms. Kim! Ms. Kim! Over here! Ici, ici! Look at my damn camera!"

Well, here I am in a vintage Jack Mulqueen silk floral dress. Gorgeous, huh? Click below to see more photos...

Wild Things

Don't you just love rainy days in Vancouver? Yeaaahhhh....me, neither! It's quite depressing watching it rain three days straight every time I do the dishes. However I do love getting to put on my rain boots and stepping on puddles with a vengeance!

Here's my little girl in her cute apple rain jacket and new booties. When I saw those boots, I had to buy them. They look almost like a pair I have. I know it's lame to have your kids dress like you but maybe I'm just vain. No, not maybe...I am.

Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry

I just watched this documentary on Ai Weiwei. What an amazing artist...and ballsy! It is inspiring to see him use art to communicate his concern against China's human rights policies (or lack there of). I don't know if I would ever be as courageous to go up against something so big. I think I'd die if I had to live in a world where you had to censor yourself...cause as you know, a lot of shit always comes out of my mouth.

It was also refreshing to see the power of twitter and other social media used as a weapon to spread free speech and record the truth rather than nonsense celebrity news. It was like watching him in combat, guerrilla warfare style...always one step ahead of the big guys.

Which Designer Are You Reading?

The 65th Emmy Awards are tonight and there’s no doubt that the number one question on the red carpet will be “Which designer are you wearing?”.  I’m sure the celebrities must get tired of that question! So instead, I’d like to throw out this question…”Which designer are you reading?”
Aren’t you just drooling thinking about filling up your shelves with these books? I was gifted these from work for my five year anniversary there. I already owned a few other designers in the same series so it was a nice addition to my set. Can you guess the designer in the photos below?

A New Beginning

There are three times in the year when it feels like the perfect opportunity to start something new...New year's Day, Spring (especially after a good spring cleaning) and the beginning of September (remember how exciting it was to get new school supplies? Ha, well...I get to experience that all over again with my children).

So what am I starting new? This blog!...that I hope to actually keep up with! My first one died a slow and painful death. Painful because I was seeing my monthly hosting fees go down the drain. Slow because I didn't realize how hard it was to keep up with blogging and add to that, the addition of a new baby. Not sure if I'll still be able to keep up the pace but who cares. Hopefully those who've landed on this blog will enjoy the content. I'll be sharing my outfit posts, thrift finds and random thoughts and inspiration. Hopefully, I can make this into a mini diary through one of those on-line publishing companies and share it with my grand kids one day so they can say...grandma was actually cool =).
